Taylor Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS) Scholarships
The TOPS Opportunity Award provides merit-based scholarships for students who are attending a Louisiana State Public collet or university, covering tuition and other fees for students. High school students must have maintained a minimum of 2.5 grade point average on all core courses, as well as completed 19.0 core units, have a minimum ACT score of 20 (or SAT equivalent). Residency requirements are included. Those who choose to attend a non-public school within the Louisiana Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (LAICU) will be eligible to have a scholarship weighted to reflect current public school costs.
The TOPS Performance Award pays for tuition and certain fees for those attending an eligible public Louisiana college or university , as well as $400 annual stipend. As with the TOPS Opportunity award, students may opt to attend a private institution associated with LAICU and the tuition will be pro-rated. Students eligible for this award are the same or higher as the Opportunity award, and include a 3.0 grade point average requirement as well as a minimum ACT score of 23.
TOPS Honor Award provides tuition, certain fees, and an annual stipend of $800 for with standards higher than those of the TOPS Performance Award. Eligible schools are the same as with the otherTOPS awards, but the grade point average minimum is 3.0 and the ACT minimum is 27–or SAT equivalent. Residency requirements apply for Louisiana and students must maintain acceptable academic standards to continue in the program.
TOPS Tech Award has similar requirements for residency apply as with the other TOPS awards. This program, however, provides tuition for those enrolled in a technical or cosmetology school which does not provide a baccalaureate option. Students must have maintained a 2.50 grade point average in high school and will have scored a 17 or above on the ACT, as well as maintain academic standards to remain in the TOPS program for successive years.
Accounting Scholarships in Louisiana
Those considering a career in accounting should look at the Alex Postlethwaite Scholarship which is available to Louisiana residents who have enrolled full time at a four year college or university located in Louisiana. Winners may receive awards in the amount of $2,500 and must be at least in their fifth semester of their college career and carry a minimum grade point average of 2.50. Other scholarships for Louisiana residents studying accounting may also be found through the Society of Louisiana Certified Public Accountants.
Other Scholarships in Louisiana
Louisiana Go Grant provides need based money for college to students who are residents of the state and have received a federal Pell Grant. Awards range from $300 to $3,000 each year, are renewable annually, and are determined based upon the filing of a FAFSA.
Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership (LEAP) is a federal program which is regulated by state secondary institutions to aid students in paying for college. This is a need based program which provides up to 4,000 Louisiana students each year with college money ranging from $200-$2,000 annually. Students must only be a resident of Louisiana for one year prior to the application for this program.
